The Subaru BRZ is a lightweight, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe developed jointly with Toyota, sharing its platform with the Toyota 86 and GR86. Its name stands for Boxer engine, Rear-wheel drive, and Zenith, and its formula draws on the balanced, affordable driver's cars Toyota built in decades past. The 2+2 fastback prioritizes low weight and neutral handling over outright power.
The second generation, launched in 2021, moved to a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated flat-four producing roughly 228-232 hp at 7,000 rpm and 184 lb-ft of torque, addressing the low-end flat spot of the earlier 2.0-liter car. A 6-speed manual or automatic is offered, with 0-60 mph in about 5.4 seconds and kerb weight around 1,270-1,307 kg.
The tS variant adds STI-developed suspension tuning, Brembo brakes, and unique interior trim for sharper track focus.
