How to Buy a Maserati GranTurismo with Confidence

Petrol Nettuno V6 or all-electric Folgore, coupe or GranCabrio — the second-generation GranTurismo range explained for buyers, with the checks that matter.

The second-generation Maserati GranTurismo, in production since 2023 on the M189 platform, is really two cars sharing one elegant body: a twin-turbo petrol V6 grand tourer and a triple-motor electric one.[1] Choosing well means understanding that split before you start negotiating. The full Maserati GranTurismo database page lays out the complete range; here is the buyer’s version.

The choice you’re actually making

  • Modena — the 3.0-liter Nettuno twin-turbo V6 with 490 PS and 600 N·m, all-wheel drive, 8-speed automatic.[1]
  • Trofeo — the same engine at 550 PS and 650 N·m; the sharper petrol car.[1]
  • Folgore — all-electric, with triple permanent-magnet motors making 762 PS and a colossal 1,350 N·m.[1]

Across the range, 0–100 km/h takes between 2.7 and 3.9 seconds and top speed spans 302–325 km/h depending on variant.[1] A convertible exists too: the GranCabrio II.[1] All are 2+2s, so the rear seats are genuinely usable for the school run, less so for adults on a grand tour.[1]

Modena, Trofeo, or Folgore is not a trim walk. It is three different ownership propositions in one body.

Pre-purchase discipline

  • Complete service history, ideally at franchised or marque-specialist workshops. On a recent, complex car, gaps are leverage at minimum.
  • Software currency. Early-production examples of any new-generation car receive updates; confirm the car is current before purchase.
  • For the Folgore: have battery health and charging behavior professionally assessed — it is the heart of the car’s value.[1]
  • Professional inspection. A marque-familiar pre-purchase inspection is cheap relative to what it can catch.
  • Build specification. Options and colors move value on Italian GTs; get the original order documentation.
  • Warranty transfer. Confirm remaining factory coverage follows the car.

Buying strategy

Because the generation is young, condition differences between cars are mostly about care, not age. That favors patient buyers: hold out for a documented, unmodified, properly updated example rather than chasing the lowest price.
