Few cars carry as much weight for their maker as the Continental GT. Built at Crewe since 2003, it was the first new Bentley launched after Volkswagen’s 1998 acquisition, and it was pivotal in reviving the brand — the first Bentley to use mass-production manufacturing techniques while keeping handcrafted interiors.^[1] It was also a manufacturing first: the first production car with an entire body side formed by the Super Formed aluminum process, rather than conventional stamping.^[1]

The fourth generation

The current car, in production since 2024, moves the story forward again. The core powertrain is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, hybridized on most variants and driving through an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox of Porsche PDK lineage, with plug-in hybrid all-wheel drive as the standard layout.^[1] Body styles are a two-door fastback coupe and a convertible.^[1]

The range in numbers

• Speed / Mulliner: 782 PS (771 hp), 1,000 N·m (738 lb‑ft); the Speed reaches 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds.^[1]
• Base GT / Azure: 680 PS (671 hp), 930 N·m, 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.^[1]
• Supersports: 666 PS (657 hp), 800 N·m, rear-wheel drive, 310 km/h (193 mph), limited to 500 units.^[1]

The Supersports is the philosophical outlier — the only rear-driven car in the range, and the rarest.^[1] The Speed and Mulliner are the flagships; the base GT and Azure carry the everyday-grand-touring brief.^[1]

The character

The Continental GT has always occupied a particular position: faster than a luxury car needs to be, more luxurious than a fast car usually is. The hybrid fourth generation sharpens both ends of that equation — more power than any predecessor’s headline figure, with electrified refinement underneath.^[1] It remains the definitive statement of what Bentley builds and why.
