McLaren's first series-production V6 hybrid rewards an informed buyer. The specs, the versions, and the homework worth doing.
The McLaren Artura is a different kind of McLaren purchase. Produced since 2022, it is the brand’s first series-production V6 hybrid and rides on an all-new platform — the McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture, designed from the outset around electrification.[1] New platform, new powertrain: for a buyer, that means the usual supercar diligence plus a hybrid-specific layer.
What powers it
The Artura pairs a 2,993 cc twin-turbocharged V6 — notable for its 120-degree bank angle — with an electric motor, for a combined 680 PS (671 hp) and 720 N·m of torque.[1] The engine alone contributes 577 hp and the motor adds 94 hp.[1] A 7.4 kWh lithium-ion battery weighing 88 kg sits behind the cabin and allows roughly 31 km of electric-only running.[1] Drive goes to the rear wheels through an 8-speed SSG dual-clutch gearbox, and McLaren claims 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds with a 330 km/h (205 mph) top speed.[1]
Bodies and versions
- Artura coupé — kerb weight around 1,498 kg.[1]
- Artura Spider — the roadster, at about 1,560 kg.[1]
- Artura GT4 and Artura Trophy — the competition variants.[1]
The homework
Treat the hybrid system as a first-class inspection item. Confirm the car’s software is current and that every recall or service campaign has been completed at a McLaren dealer — early-build cars of any new platform live and die by their update history. A pre-purchase inspection should include a health check of the battery and charging behaviour, not just the engine. Ask how the car was used: an Artura that charged regularly and drove often is generally a better bet than one that sat. And as with any McLaren, verify specification against factory records and insist on complete documentation.
Start with the facts on our full McLaren Artura database page, then measure the market against them in the Artura listings currently on sports.cars. The Artura signals McLaren’s shift toward hybrid powertrains across its range[1] — buying the car that starts that era, buy it carefully and it may prove a significant one to own.
