The Honda Civic Type R is a line of high-performance hot hatchbacks and sports sedans built by Honda since 1997. It was the third model to wear Honda's red Type R badge, after the NSX and Integra, and represents the brand's focus on accessible, driver-focused performance. All generations use a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout with a six-speed manual and a helical limited-slip differential.

Early cars were naturally aspirated, beginning with the Japan-only EK9 and its 185 PS 1.6-liter engine. The FK2 brought turbocharging in 2015, and the current FL5 produces 330 PS (325 hp) in Japan and Europe and 320 hp in North America.

The Type R has repeatedly chased front-wheel-drive lap records. In April 2023 the FL5 lapped the Nurburgring in 7:44.881, reclaiming the front-wheel-drive production-car record at the circuit.
