M4 · G82

The BMW M4 is the high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series, developed by BMW's motorsport division. It arrived in 2014 when BMW split the coupe and convertible from the M3 line into a separate nameplate, giving the M4 its own identity while retaining the model's track-bred lineage.

The first-generation F82/F83 used a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six producing 431 PS (425 hp) and 550 N-m, offered with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The current G82/G83, built on the CLAR platform, raises output to 480 PS in the base car and 510 PS in the Competition, with the Competition xDrive reaching 60 mph in 2.8 seconds.

Special editions have pushed the M4 further. The track-focused GTS made 500 PS with water injection and was limited to 700 units, while the lightweight CSL produced 543 hp in a 1,000-unit run. The M4 also competes in DTM, GT3, and GT4 racing.
