What the 750S is, how it improves on the 720S, and why its place at the end of McLaren's combustion era defines its character.
The McLaren 750S is best understood as a thesis refined rather than rewritten. Introduced in 2023 as the successor to the 720S, it is essentially a comprehensively revised version of that car, continuing the Super Series line McLaren began in 2017.[1] It is also a bookend: the final McLaren Automotive model powered solely by an internal combustion engine, closing an era before the brand’s move toward electrification.[1]
The engine and drivetrain
At the centre sits the 3,994 cc M840T twin-turbocharged V8, carried over from the 720S but with higher output: 750 PS (740 hp) at 7,500 rpm and 800 N·m of torque at 5,500 rpm.[1] Power reaches the rear wheels alone through a 7-speed Graziano dual-clutch transmission, in the classic rear mid-engine layout.[1] McLaren shortened the transmission ratio, fitted a revised exhaust and larger air intakes, and quickened the steering — changes aimed at response rather than headline drama.[1]
Lighter, sharper, slightly louder
Set against the 720 PS of its predecessor, the 750S gains power while shedding roughly 30 kg of kerb weight.[1] That combination — more output, less mass, faster rack — is the whole character of the car in one sentence. The cabin moved forward too, with an 8-inch infotainment system and Apple CarPlay addressing the old car’s most common complaint.[1]
Bodies and variants
- Coupé — the standard 2-door form.[1]
- Spider — a 2-door retractable hard-top convertible.[1]
- 788HS — a further variant for 2026.[1]
Its place in the lineup
Within McLaren’s range, the 750S holds the position the 720S defined: the series-production supercar that carries the company’s core engineering argument. What changes its meaning is timing. As the last combustion-only McLaren, it marks the end of an era for the marque[1] — and cars that close a chapter tend to be remembered differently from cars that merely continue one.
