Roughly 500 Chirons exist, spread across variants from Sport to Super Sport 300+. How to tell them apart and what to verify before buying one.
The Bugatti Chiron market is small by design. Production was capped at roughly 500 units at a base price of 2.4 million euros, and the first 200 sold before deliveries even began in March 2017.[1] Built at Molsheim from 2016 through 2024, every car is accounted for, which means buying one is an exercise in verifying exactly which car, in which specification, with which history.[1]
Know the variant ladder
All Chirons share the 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16, the 7-speed Ricardo dual-clutch transmission, and all-wheel drive, with 1,479 hp and 1,600 N·m of torque in standard form and 1,578 hp in the Super Sport 300+ and Super Sport.[1] Around that core, Bugatti built a family: the lighter Chiron Sport, the handling-focused Pur Sport, and editions including the Sport 110 Ans Bugatti, Noire, Les Légendes du Ciel, Pur Sport Grand Prix, and Profilée.[1] The rarest carry the biggest premiums. The Super Sport 300+ was limited to 30 cars and is tied to the model’s defining feat, a recorded 304.773 mph in testing, while the one-off Profilée sold at auction for 9.79 million euros.[1] Identifying precisely where a car sits on this ladder is the first and most consequential step of any purchase.
What to verify
- Factory records. Confirm the build specification and variant directly through Bugatti’s records, not the seller’s description.
- Service history. A Chiron should have an unbroken record with authorized service. Gaps are negotiating points at best, warnings at worst.
- Provenance and title. Ownership chain, storage conditions, and any incident history all belong in the file before money moves.
- Inspection. Even at this level, commission a specialist pre-purchase inspection. The cost is trivial against the downside.
Performance context
The standard car reaches 62 mph in 2.4 seconds and is electronically limited to 261 mph for safety.[1] Those figures matter to a buyer mainly as a reminder that tires, fluids, and software on a car with this capability must be maintained to factory standard without exception.
